What is OraVerse®?
A reversal agent designed to shorten soft-tissue numbness.
The dental procedure may be finished, but numb lips, cheeks, and tongue can linger.
OraVerse® is administered after eligible dental treatment to help reverse the soft-tissue effects of certain local anesthetics. It allows normal sensation and function to return sooner for many patients.
OraVerse is not a sedative, pain reliever, or replacement for local anesthesia. It is considered only after the procedure is complete and when the dentist determines that reversing numbness is appropriate.

How it works

Once treatment is complete, OraVerse is injected into the same general area where the local anesthetic was delivered. Its active ingredient, phentolamine mesylate, increases local blood flow, helping the anesthetic clear from soft tissues sooner.

An important distinction
OraVerse reverses numbness—not sedation.
Local anesthesia blocks sensation in a specific area. Sedation reduces anxiety or awareness. OraVerse targets lingering soft-tissue numbness from certain local anesthetics and does not make oral, IV, nitrous oxide, or general anesthesia wear off.

Is OraVerse right for you?

OraVerse may be considered after eligible procedures that use a local anesthetic containing a vasoconstrictor. It is not automatically appropriate after every injection or for every patient.

Is OraVerse a sedative?
No. OraVerse helps reverse soft-tissue numbness caused by certain local anesthetics. It does not reduce anxiety or reverse nitrous oxide, oral sedation, IV sedation, or general anesthesia.
Will OraVerse make numbness disappear immediately?
No. Sensation returns gradually. OraVerse may shorten the duration, but response varies and immediate or complete reversal cannot be promised.
Does receiving OraVerse hurt?
It is administered by dental injection after treatment. You may feel pressure or brief discomfort, although the treatment area is often still numb.
Can children receive OraVerse?
Some children may be eligible under prescribing guidance. Age, weight, treatment, anesthetic, and health history determine whether it is appropriate.
Can I eat immediately afterward?
Wait until sensation and safe control of the lips, cheeks, and tongue have returned sufficiently, and follow the dentist’s specific instructions.
