A milestone in advanced dental education
On July 10, 2010, Dr. Jill Wade received the Mastership Award from the Academy of General Dentistry during its convocation in New Orleans. The achievement represented years of continuing education and hands-on study across the many disciplines involved in comprehensive general dentistry.
Within the historical requirements described at the time, a dentist first had to earn Fellowship in the Academy. Mastership then required hundreds of additional approved continuing-education hours, including extensive participation courses that emphasized clinical application.
What the MAGD distinction represents
The letters MAGD stand for Master of the Academy of General Dentistry. The distinction recognizes a sustained commitment to learning beyond dental school and exposure to a broad range of clinical subjects.
When Dr. Wade received the award, the original announcement reported that 2,617 Academy members had achieved Mastership during the organization’s first 58 years. That figure reflects the historical context of the 2010 milestone and is not presented as a current membership statistic.
For Dr. Wade, the value of advanced education has always been measured by how it improves care for patients.

Mastership was not the end of Dr. Wade’s education. She has continued to study cosmetic dentistry, function, oral-systemic health, sleep and airway concerns, and collaborative wellness care throughout her career.
